Our Logo

The Farewell Harbour Lodge logo is our way of paying respect, honour and tribute to the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations presence in the entire Broughton Archipelago region since time immemorial. Our logo was designed for us by KWAMKWAMGALIS Jason Taylor. Jason is a First Nations artist descending from the  Namgis, Tlowitsis and Mamtagila tribes of Northern Vancouver Island.

Our logo features the great grizzly bear in his canoe, holding a salmon along with the blackfish or Orca swimming below.

Since the time he was born Jason Taylor has been deeply involved in his Kwakwaka’wakw culture, learning the songs, dances, legends, rights and privileges of his family. This immersion into his culture led him to travel all over the world sharing it with people from all walks of life through his involvement in various traditional performing groups.

Jason began drawing and designing at a young age inspired by books of Kwakwaka’wakw artworks and artists around him including his late Uncle John Nelson and Godfather Richard Hunt. Jason currently specializes in traditional design work with a contemporary twist adding hand painted original designs to canvas, drums, hats, shoes, wallets, purses, belts and anything else that inspires him.

For more information or to inquire about commissioning some of Jason’s spectacular traditional artwork, please see the Authentic Indigenous website or check out Jason’s Facebook page.
